Hedgesville is a small-town rich in history and charm. Located in Berkeley County, there is plenty to see and do. Located at the site of a natural limestone spring, the town of Hedgesville in the early 1700’s had been an Indian meeting place before the European settlers came into the region. Hedgesville grew out of a trader’s village known as Skinners Gap. The temperature of the spring is a constant 57 degrees and has never been affected by drought. In 1870, a charter gave the Town Council control of the area and adjacent land. In 1832, the town of Hedgesville was laid out and named for the prominent local Hedges family. Hedgesville, as a political entity, is older than the State of West Virginia.

While a young man and a surveyor, George Washington came into the area and worshipped at the site of what is now Mt. Zion Episcopal Church. A founding member of the U.S. Supreme Court, John Marshall had a sister who also attended the church.

The Wood’s Resort is home to two 18-hole golf courses, the Mountain View and the Stony Link. The Sleepy Creek Spa is a luxury spa and salon offering pampering and treatments for both men and women. West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle boasts numerous recreational, historic and cultural activities.
